This sumptuous seafood restaurant offers the largest, freshest products that the ocean can produce to satisfy our predatory, depraved carnal passions. One needs only a little luck to come across what might be considered marine dinosaurs. Lobsters weighing 3.5 kilos, for example. Who’s jealous now! They only let us look at it, while tempting us with the 11 kilo turbot that we were unable to refuse. It was served with memorable potatoes and ajada sauce (garlic, bread and salt), of which not a single drop was left. Gelatinous splendor! Such delicacy! Unbelievably juicy! Of course, we must keep in mind that the restaurant enjoys a large and varied clientele whose tastes, particularly that of rare-cooked fish, they must constantly satisfy. We wont soon forget the pleasure derived from that spectacular Galician style fish. Long live its majesty! Long live the fish king!
The visit was especially poignant in that, accompanied by my good friends Cristino Álvarez (Caius Apicius) and Julián Gil (Yemas de Santa Teresa), we had some truly euphoric moments which were further contributed to by Diego in his offer of a few bottles of Valdamor, a Domínguez wine which the head of the family, don Manuel, must be extremely proud of. Noble sensations were afforded to us by simple preparations: tender, wild and perfectly complemented pulpo a feira (boiled octopus with paprika); beautiful, fried Padrón peppers and two juicy puff pastries of xoubas (baby sardines) and cod with raisins. After this interlude, we shared a dish of giant clams, two dozen prawns, two velvet crabs cut into pieces and one spider crab weighing 1.8 kilos, exultantly fresh and meaty. So what were we celebrating? Naomi Campbell’s last divorce. Or was it Claudia’s? Or Madonna’s? Whatever it was, there were lofty motives involved.
A simple glance at the seafood display window and a look at how our wallets were fairing that evening sufficed. The finest in excessive feasting: barnacles, oyster, Norway lobster, scallops, razorshell clams, cockles, lobster, hake, sole, lamprey… raw, cooked or prepared with superb formulas.
Ladies and gentlemen: the final voyage in search of lost treasures.
